How Are You Taking Care Of Yourself

Hello everybody. Mickey Griffith here with the Referral Institute in the North San Fransisco Bay. Here’s my question for you today. How are you taking care of yourself? As business owners, I hear this a lot. I love helping people. And while we are looking for some deeper reason that people do what they do, the reality is that’s true for a lot of people. They love to help other people, and it’s part of what motivates them. In fact, they love helping people so much that they forget to take care of the one person that they really should be taking care of, and that’s themselves. Business owners, especially some particular behavioral styles are very often trying to make sure that other people are taken care of as a part of their business. We’re trying to make sure our clients are taken care of, we need to make sure our staff’s taken care of to some degree, we need to make sure our referral sources are taken care of. We’re constantly taking care of other people. How about our family members. We’re taking care of others as a function of what we need to do to survive and to grow our business, because we know they’re necessary functions and some of us are just wired that way. But the reality is this; if we don’t take care of ourselves, it’s very difficult to take care of somebody else.

For those of you who have trouble with taking the time to take care of yourself, think of it this way. By taking care of yourself, you’re giving yourself the ability to take care of others even better. We have to be at our own peak if we’re going to help people to the level that we really want to help them. So how are you taking care of yourself? It doesn’t have to be complicated, maybe you like getting a facial once a month and that’s what helps you rejuvenate. Maybe you need quiet time to read a book. Maybe you need to get out of the city and get to nature. Maybe you need to get out of nature and get to the city. What is it that you do that recharges your batteries? We need to be doing this and probably doing it more often than we already are. We need to take care of ourselves if we intend to be at peak performance. Are we eating right, are we exercising, all of those wonderful things. What are we doing to make sure that we are personally taken care of physically, mentally, spiritually? Those things all matter because when they’re not being attended to, we can’t bring our full selves to the business of doing business. And we’re also not living such a fulfilled life. My question for you; what are you doing to take care of yourself? I hope you go do something very soon that will make you feel great and take care of yourself so you can take care of others even more.
